Biography
Arjan is a senior manager with extensive experience in
organisational leadership at the highest levels; managing the delivery of
complex and high-profile projects, organisations and services; across the
public, private and academic sectors.
His credentials include a Technical Degree (MSc), a
Management Degree (Executive MBA) and over 20 years’ experience in the industry including both
government and the private sector.
Arjan’s experience includes projects in emerging transport
technologies, automated vehicles, parking and traffic management and
operations, road safety and future transport planning. He has been
involved in several large transport infrastructure projects and he has an
extensive industry network.
Prior to founding AR Business Consultancy, Arjan was the Regional Manager NSW
and ACT of the Australian Road Research Board where he was responsible for the
NSW operations of the company including involvement in programs such as the
National Road Safety Partnership Program and the National Assets Centre of
Excellence.
He was also the
Regional Manager of the Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI), a peak
body that promotes the acceleration of a safe introduction of autonomous
vehicles onto Australian roads.

Manager, Priority Sewerage Program Alliance As technical manager
I managed 5 Design Managers with multidisciplinary design teams and a post
Demobilisation Manager. My responsibilities included the delivery and
approval of all designs, all post demobilisation works (warranty) and the
preparation of Benefits Realisation Reviews. The benefit realisation reviews
included many non-financial performance criteria. · Contract
Manager (client representative), High Speed Bus Lane As contract
manager I was responsible for the design and construction of a twenty kilometer dedicated bus lane through existing urban
areas and new developments. My responsibilities included securing the
funding, community consultation and acquisition of land. · Project
Manager Public Space (client representative) I was
responsible for all work in the public space. The project included
demolishing 1250 dwellings, building of 2700 dwellings, new infrastructure
and the creation of new parks and public spaces. |

infrastructure standards and specifications. in pursuit of harmonisation in
the provision and management of road and transport infrastructure closely

Manager/co-author, Safe System Roads for Local Government (AP-R518-16) This
Austroads project has delivered a method to achieve an increased application
of the Safe System approach on locally-controlled roads, including an online
practitioner reference tool (Road Safety Engineering Toolkit) and an impact
analysis of project findings on relevant Austroads Guides. · Quality
Manager, Development of a framework to assess road tunnel designs Development
of a user-centred design framework for tunnel design to optimise the user

Managing
multidisciplinary teams
At
ARRB, Arjan was responsible for a steadily growing team of highly skilled and
world-renowned experts, delivering multi-disciplinary research projects to
the road industry. The areas of expertise included road design, asset
management, pavements, economics, road safety, human factors, road condition
data collection, transport management and intelligent transport systems
(ITS). At Tauw, Arjan was one of the regional managers, managing a
team of 50. Tauw is a civil engineering
consultancy, mainly active in road and rail design, urban design, water
management and soil remediation. He
transformed the regional office at both ARRB and Tauw
into an outward focussed organisation, delivering a service to its clients
based on trust and understanding of client requirements while internally
creating a business culture of professionalism and open communication. |
